NextPharma is seeking a dynamic leader (f/m/d) to drive the evolution and enhancement of our EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) and Engineering & Maintenance functions across the Group. This is a dual leadership role that requires both strategic oversight and hands-on technical expertise.


Role Overview

The EHS & Engineering Lead will be responsible for:

  • EHS Leadership: Developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS programs to ensure compliance with national and European legislation while advancing NextPharma’s sustainability goals.
  • Engineering Leadership: Managing the Group’s Capex & Maintenance processes, budget and delivery of reliable & robust engineering and maintenance practices; whilst driving operational excellence across equipment, utilities, and facilities.


This role requires strong leadership, regulatory expertise, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams while ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

1. EHS Leadership

  • Program Management & Compliance
    • Establish and maintain Group-wide EHS policies, procedures, and technical standards.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant national and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, REACH, CLP, and other environmental legislation).
    • Monitor legislative changes and lead implementation across sites.
  • Risk & Incident Management
    • Conduct internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
    • Benchmark EHS practices against pharmaceutical industry standards.
    • Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
    • Drive adoption of EHS tools and systems for continuous improvement.
  • Training & Communication
    • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all levels of staff.
    • Lead awareness campaigns and facilitate regular networking forums with local EHS managers.
  • Environmental & Sustainability
    • Lead environmental management initiatives and sustainability programs.
    • Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to strengthen sustainability performance (e.g., Ecovadis).
  • Data & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate EHS records, metrics, and documentation.
    • Provide reporting and insights to support continuous improvement.


2. Engineering Leadership

  • Oversee the Group’s Capex budget (creation, adherence, and management).
  • Lead capital project delivery, contractor management, and engineering processes.
  • Develop and implement robust maintenance strategies for equipment and utilities.
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet regulatory, validation, and audit requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in asset reliability, safety, and operational performance.
  • Negotiate and manage engineering and maintenance contracts.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education & Certification
    • Degree in Engineering (required).
    • NEBOSH Occupational Safety & Health Certificate (or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience (5–10 years minimum)
    • Proven leadership in EHS and Engineering within regulated industries (pharmaceutical, FMCG, chemical, or biotechnology).
    • Strong background in EHS compliance, regulatory audits, and environmental permitting.
    • Demonstrated success in managing capital projects and maintenance programs at site or group level.
    • Experience in process safety, hazardous materials management, and risk assessment.
  • Skills
    • Strong influencing, communication, and presentation skills at all organizational levels.
    • Excellent problem-solving and project management capabilities.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple complex priorities.
    • Proficiency in EHS/engineering systems and MS Office.
    • Organized, methodical, and able to work independently.
    • Flexibility to participate in out-of-hours on-call duties.
